A heavy vehicle is heavy itself and the tires of the same are pretty heavy. For the tire to be heavy provides better alignment and also ensure smooth grip of the same. We have different tires for different vehicle for the SUV tires there are soft tread and light weight tires, with lots of grooves. This ensures proper grip and no skidding.

The heavy vehicles like truck and vans, or small motor vans have heavy tires because:

The area of the truck is pretty large and so the load would put more pressure. To balance the pressure the area has to have the equal amount of force. That force is provided by the tires. These are different from performance tires. Large amount of tires allow the pressure to be distributed and ensures balancing of the truck no matter how much is being loaded.

There is load sharing by the trucks. A truck carries cement, cars, and bricks, sand, basically it is the goods carrier. Also, the weight of the truck itself is very much. Hence, the load is shared by the number of tires on the lower end. Depending upon the size if the truck the tires are decided and of course its purpose.
