Answer:

Am I ignorant for not wanting to learn a foreign language?

I don’t believe ignorance is the main factor. I do not know your life and circumstances so there may be plenty of reasons:

Too little time: your life is busy and living it is already taking up all your available time.

Too lazy: you have the time but misinformation leads you to think that learning languages is complicated and bothersome (which it shouldn’t be), therefore you’d rather not.

You believe English is enough: in many ways you’re right, non-anglophones are expected to learn your language, not the other way around. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.

Now here are some good reasons for learning a foreign language:

It opens cultural doors: once you speak a foreign language, you can visit that country and truly immerse yourself into its culture, meet its people and live an incredible human experience. Communication is the basis for interaction, and knowing other languages widens your field of possibilities.

It opens financial doors: speaking multiple languages is a desirable trait on a modern résumé, and it could land you a job in an exciting location (with possibly a higher wage).

It’s good for your health: there are studies that show that bilingualism has a positive impact on the odds of getting cognitive diseases later in life, and that those odds get better the more languages you learn.

It gets easier the more you learn: as you learn more languages, your brain is better trained for it, and if they’re in the same language families you’ll notice helpful similarities in root words and grammatical structure.

It’s fun: if you find the right app, or the right person(s) to teach you, it can be a great experience.

Overall, I would highly suggest you learn another language, it’s an enriching experience. I can testify since English is not my native tongue, en réalité je suis français et je suis très heureux de pouvoir m’exprimer à la fois dans la langue de Molière et de Shakespeare!

Je vous souvaite bonne chance sur votre chemin linguistique, I wish you good luck on your linguistic journey!

I think it will help you
