Cause the plates are floating on water. They are large landmasses so we don't feel it when they are moving. But they are floating on water and every year they move approx 2-3 cm.

Millions of year ago, there weren't continent seperated. There was a huge landmass called Pangaea. But due to some reason it broke and seperated into what we today know as continents which float on water.
