Why do the poles experience about six months day and six months nights?

it is due to the orbit of our planret is elips and one of the part of the orbit is near to the sun so it seems to be six months in day and vice versa

The areas near the poles receive less heat as the rays of the Sun are slanting . The north pole is inclined towards the sun and the places beyond the Arctic circle experience continuous day light for about 6 month . The reverse thing happens in case of South Pole
