Gases, such as the air or helium inside a balloon, take the shape of the containers they're in. They spread out so that the space is filled up evenly with gas molecules. ... When gas molecules are warmed, their average kinetic energy also increases.Jun 5, 2014

When you blow air in a balloon or fill it with water the water or air occupies some space in the balloon and in order to occupy even more space it pushes the wall of the balloon outwards at all sides.

The balloon due to its rubber composition expands as much as it can, and when it can no longer take the pressure it burst.
