Why do the so-called radiators which are part of a central heating system have the wrong name?​

we all know that there is heat exchange process occurs in radiator between coolant or water + coolant with the hot gases. there is always medium as tube walls, air at the outside. but the name suggest the heat transfer with out medium is called radiation and device called radiator.
