The three physical states of a matter are;

1) Solid ; 2) liquid and 3) Gas.

The three states of the physical matters are possible due to the intramolecular spacing differences of any substance.

This intramolecular spacing can be manipulated with the help of heat application or heat extraction.

So we can say that the heat is the indirect reason behind the interchange of three physical states of a matter.
