Steep slopes have poor soil quality because of the following reasons:

Slopes are located on mountains and hillsides.

They are present at a higher altitude than valleys which are located on the lower side.

Due to their difference in altitude, the soil residues which get collected in the slopes get washed down to the lower-lying valleys.

Hence the amount of fertile soil which could be previously present in the steep slopes are not present anymore and the soil quality gets poor in quality leads to soil erosion.
