why do the symbols of some chemical element consists of two letter instead of one only​

Explanation:

This is because some of the elements have the same letter starting in both the elements. So to a avoid difficulty in recognition of the elements a second letter is added.

For example calcium and cobalt both have C as their first letter so to avoid confusion calcium is denoted as Ca whereas cobalt is denoted as Co.
