The use of resources should be sustainable because many non renewable resources like coal and petroleum can be exhausted if they are over exploited. Sustainability of resources means that resources should be utilised in such a way so that requirements of not only the present generation but also the future generations are met. Over exploitation of resources would result in depletion of various fossil feuls, metals etc. This will hamper the economic development of the nations.

Further, the over exploitation of resources also seriously impact the environment. For example, the Bellary mining in the state of Karnataka has threatened the environmental balance.

An example of sustainable development is eco-tourism. Tourists are able to enjoy areas of natural beauty without requiring over-development that might harm the environment. Recycling resources reduces waste. Used cans, bottles, paper and cardboard can be recycled and reduces the need to use extra resources.
