Why do the whale explode when it is found dead?

AmitavaBanerjee: Sea water is saline ie hypotonic. It creates pressure on the dead whale which has no more internal pressure. This external pressure causes the whale to burst.

Answer:

Sea water is saline i.e. Hypotonic solution. The dead whale has no internal pressure to balance the external pressure of the deep sea. As a result sea water enters the whale through the mouth. Due to this unbalanced pressure the whale explodes.
