During the revolt of 1857 a large number of freedom fighters were arrested .The British authority found it  difficult to accommodate all of them in the mainland jails. Therefore the British Rulers thought of a Jail which should be far away from the Mainland and also  it should be surrounded by Sea water. While thinking of such type of jail, they found Andaman and Nicobar Islands as the best place to make a jail as in addition to being far away from the mainland, the island was surrounded by water which would make it difficult for the prisoners to escape.

Answer:

The British founded the Andaman and Nicobar islands an ideal place for Indian convicts because of the following reasons:

Explanation:

Andaman and Nicobar was situated in a far away place from the main land and was surrounded by water from all the sides. So, the Indian convicts could not escape from those areas.

They were cut off from the political scenario of the main land and cold bot influence and instruct other political leaders to carry on the revolution and protest.

British cold avoid the unpopularity of death sentence yet being in Andaman and Nicobar island was like death sentence.
