The charcoal lining is efficient in absorbing pollutants, it has activated carbon in it, which absorbs all the pollutants in the air, filtering out fresh air for the person wearing the mask.

Now we know a traffic policeman stands the whole day, in pollution which comes out of the vehicles, or is already present in the air. So wearing a mask with charcoal lining helps them prevent the pollutants from entering their respiratory tract, and thus avoiding serious or chronic diseases.
