Why do trees in mangroves develop aerial roots ? How does this benefit the vegetation /environment of the region where they are found ?

Mangrove tress develope Aerial roots because the roots of mangrove trees cannot breathe underwater..
As mangrove forests are swampy areas filled with water ,mangrove trees cannot breathe and hence they have Aerial roots to breathe..

Talking of benefits to the vegetartion out there,,it doesn’t actually have any affects or benefits to the region where they are found..
