I am a girl. I am well educated, highly qualified and working in a reputed organisation and earn a handsome salary. I am financially independent so I decide how to spend my money. I give money to my parents regularly as I feel they deserve it for everything they did for me. But this is a thing of the past. Now I am married. I am still earning the same money but now I cannot give it to my parents with free will. I have to take permission from my husband and in-laws and they are dead against it. I am married now so all my responsibilities and attention lies only towards my now family.

This is not my story but reality of an average Indian household. So if you were my parent, would you rather like to spend much on my education? Maybe No.

A sad reality in India is still that parents bring their children up with certain expectations. A girl child is expected to be safeguarding family honour before and after marriage whereas a boy is expected to earn and take care of their parents. So definitely if the parents can afford only one to be educated, it is the son. Expectations are changing gradually but we are still a long way to go.

Until this thought process is completely changed, we will always witness this disparity between a daughter and a son's education.

Thanks for reading. Cheers!!
