Rulers always want the media to be subservient and speak well of them. This helps in positive image building before their constituents or subjects. In olden times, the King controlled the entire propaganda machinery of the state; today, dictators do so. Unlike in free democracies, countries which practice democracy only on paper,the voice of free media is muzzled when any criticism of the ruling elite is made. India is among a handful of countries in the developing world which allows free media to grow and flourish.
