My thoughts from the early 70s is that we rely heavily on fossil fuels and they are finite. They are the remains of extraordinary events that rocked this planet a few thousands of years ago, never to be repeated. They will become exhausted, too expensive, or environmentally unsustainable, so we need alternatives.

The intensity of traffic in towns and cities is concentrating pollution around the world. For our health’s sake we need alternative motivating power.
