The Happy Prince’s heart was full of love and kindness for all fellow beings; helping others stay happy was his chief purpose. He had given everything belonging to him to the poor and needy. The kind swallow had helped him in his mission also. However, when the swallow died of cold and hunger, the Happy Prince’s heart broke into two with grief.
The broken heart did not melt in the foundry because it was made of divine elements of love and kindness. God sent his angels to bring the heart and the dead swallow to his Paradise.
