I agree. Nothing is perfect. so we have to start from some where. AD is a complex disease with limited knowledge. SK-N-SH and SH-S-Y5Y are primarily originated from human dopaminergic neuroblastoma cell. lines and have been used extensively in PD research. Similarly NG-108/15 neuroblastoma/Hybridoma cell lines have been used for investigating monaminergic neurotransmission and metabolism. Yet all these are cancer cell lines and absolutely not derived from AD patients. Many patients with AD may not have amyloid-b-42.

You may use any glutamatergic and cholinergic cell lines in the beginning. You may ask from ATCC to obtain the best suitable cell line for your specified nature of study. You may also think of working on serum-deprived primary hippocampal cultured neurons..This may provide some basic understanding about the disease process, but not exactly AD.That is why we had to study the intrauterine effect of domoic acid on primary hippocampal cultured neurons.
