why do veins have valves whereas arteries dont have

bcz they have to pass blood through out the body ... and even against the force of gravity

Arteries don't have  valves because the blood i arteries flows under great pressure, so if there are valves , then the blood flow is obstructed, and may lead to damaging of the arteries. Veins have valves so as to prevent the back flow of blood.
