Why do w use concentrated sulphuric acid in brown ring test?

Brown ring test is performed by putting iron sulphate to the organic solution.
After that we add concentrated sulphuric acid to it ......then if the organic solution contains nitrate ,it will show a brown ring at the junction of two layers.
