Potassium hydroxide (Koh) is a good absorbent of carbon dioxide so it absorbed the carbon dioxide present in bottle

Now comes on question

plant need carbon dioxide to prepare food(glucose)

If there is no carbon dioxide in bottle then how can plant prepare their food

that's Why carbon dioxide is required for photosynthesis

The reason for use of koh (potassium hydroxide) in the bottle in the experiment to demonstrate that carbon dioxide is required for photosynthesis is to determine the carbondioxide from the surrounding plant.

EXPLANATION:

The 'germinating seeds' are used because they take up the oxygen present inside the flask to 'respire' and release 'carbon-di-oxide' which will be absorbed by KOH. This cause the KOH weight to increase. By this process the carbon dioxide is completely made unavailable to plant in photosynthesis reaction.
