Why do we boil the leaf in alcohol when we test it for the presence of starch

It is because the alcohol breaks down the chlorophyll, taking the green color out of the leaf.

we do this because boiling in alchohol makes the green colour out by breaking chlorophyll so that if we put idine on it it will react for the presence of starch
