Manufacturing is called as secondary activity because in this process manufacturers deal with raw materials to convert them into finished products.
As these manufacturing methods deal with primary and raw products, this is one of the reasons manufacturing is called secondary activity.
As manufacturing is about secondary processing unlike agriculture, forestry, fishing and mining, it is called secondary activity.
