Why do we call pituitary gland as the master gland? Where Is it located and what are its functions?

pituitary gland is near the brain
we call it as master gland because the the other gland starts secretion only after the command of this gland

Pituitary gland are also known as Master gland because it controls the activity and secretion of other endocrine glands. It is located just below the hypothalamus of brain. Pituitary gland also secrets Luteinizing hormone, Adrenocorticotropic hormone, Follicle-stimulating hormone, Thyroid-stimulating hormone.
