A softer soap results when the fatty acid salt contains potassium rather than sodium. Soap is the product of a saponification or basic hydrolysis reaction of a fat or oil. Sodium carbonate or sodium hydroxide is currently used to neutralize the fatty acid and convert it to the salt.

SOAP is called salt because is is a mixing of acid and salt.

This mixing of acid and base makes salt and it is used for cleaning of cloths, skin etc by dissolving grease.

HOPE ITS HELP YOU
