Why do we celebrate 26th Jan as Republic day of India, while our constitution was enacted on 26th Nov 1949?

this is because 26 jan 1950 our constitution practically came into existence.and on this day  the first independence day was celebrated in kolkata under the british rule as our freedom fighters declared purn swaraj before hand only.it was a remakable day in the indian history.
