Diwali is called the festival of light and it is celebrated to honor Ramachandra the seventh Avatar(incarnation of the god vishnu) it is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and one a battle against the demons and the demon King, Ravana.

In INDIA there is a lots of stories in epic Purana which is written by our ancestors
Through them we got information about past.
We celebrate DIWALI Or DEEPAWALI BECAUSE on this day Lord Ram came Ayodhya from forest by completing 14 years of vanvasa. SO all the villagers of Ayodhya gathered there and light the candles lamps and deeyas.That incident past away in the month of Kartekye (according to Hindu's calendar)
