why do we conserve coal

Coal, oil and natural gas are fossil fuels. They have been in existence for millions of years. Many people use these fuels as an energy source. However, fossil fuels are non-renewable; if resources are depleted, they will never be available again. It is therefore important to conserve fossil fuels, using alternative sources of energy when possible.

well, in my opinion we shouldn't conserve coal at all . if we mine it, we should use it. And as long as it is economically feasible (considering costs, environment policies etc.) we should mine it .
I don't see any reason to conserve it, especially if we won't use it differently in the future. There will be a point in the future when we won't need it anymore, or very little of it, and the reserve underground will still be there.
there are other reason I can think of why coal shouldn't be stored for longer period time.
# coal is mostly radioactive
# has an expiration date as in looses quality over time, when in contact with oxygen
# has relatively low energy density when compared to other fuels ( thus expensive to store)
# has tendancy to auto-ignite in so called hot-spot when it has free contact with oxygen
# Is an environment hazard
hope it will help you
