The reasons for eating the roots that store food for the plant is:

  • In some plants, the roots are modified to store food for them to use which is often consumed by us.
  • These are the underground modification which is fleshy and contains many essential nutrients in that can be consumed by us.
  • Many plants store their excess starch or fat in their storage structure which are tubers which are suitable for consumption.
  • For example, in some roots like carrot, radish and beetroot the food is stored in their root. These stored foods are helpful for the plant during times of scarcity.
  • When their low availability of sunlight the chances of photosynthesis are low in such a situation such plants can live for a longer period of time.
