We face scarcity of water in present days because out 71% of water in earths surface only 3% is available fresh water, out of that 3% only 0.01% is available for human consumption.
These days we humans are polluting water bodies continuosly by practicing illegal practices. Such as, most peoples are throwing plastics in water bodies.
Just before a week, I found a vedio in youtube where a whale was sick and ultimately it die. When it die, scientists saw that the whale had many plastics in it's stomach, due to which it die out. It is a warning from nature for we humans to stop polluting water bodies.
Farmers are applying excess amount of fertilisers which are getting washed into water bodies like ponds, rivers, etc. due to which many aquatic organisms die. The harmful chemicals makes the water acidic and makes it difficult for the organisms to live there.
These were two examples to your question. We should stop polluting water resources. People should understand that water is the thing for which our earth seems to be "blue planet". It heals a person. Now-a-days people started working on this to make our planet a more better place to live.

Water scarcity is caused by a lack of investment in infrastructure or technology to draw water from rivers, aquifers or other water sources or insufficient human capacity to satisfy the demand for water. We face water scarcity because of the following reasons:
