When fire is burned it gives off a poisonous gas called carbon monoxide, which you cannot see, smell or taste. If fire is burned indoors, or in an enclosed space, the gas cannot escape and it builds up in the air that you are breathing.Carbon monoxide can make you unwell very quickly and large amounts can overcome you in minutes without warning, causing you to lose consciousness and suffocate due to insufficient oxygen supply to blood stream.Under insufficient oxygen levels, coal burn can result in a huge amount of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is hazardous, and can reach a lethal dosage in rooms with bad ventilation. It can bond to blood cells(much stronger than oxygen), making that blood cell unable to carry oxygen. Hence making you suffocate.
