Look at the term “Social equality” is self-explanatory which is often misunderstood or just intentionally misrepresented.

Social represents society - everyone in the society irrespective of their cast, creed, sex or religion or personal choices.

Equality represents equalness in all aspects - it could be job description, entering a retail store, going to a restaurant or coffee shop and above all of this, equality signifies the equalness in being who you are for what you like. Having equal rights in what one wishes to participate in - could be race, a show or just to be who you are. Equality is devoid of differentiation.

Social Equality is something that has been evolving over the period of years, but in some cases it’s at a very slow gradual pace. In some of the countries, woman are not given equal rights - they are not allowed to drive, they have to dress up a certain way, whether it’s their choice or not, they are expected to present themselves in a certain manner else it’s considered shameful to the society. But on the other hand, a man is allowed to be who he wants, marry as many times as he wants, have as many illicit relationships and will never be questioned. For a woman, she will be banished from her society or harassed for just doing half of what a man does. This is Social Inequality.

In a developing country like India, casteism and sexism is deep rooted within the society which people have been fighting it out over the period of time. The rich can get away with rape/ murder but an innocent man with no political connections can be convicted for a crime he didn’t commit. This is Social Inequality.

Woman are not considered equal in a patriarchal society like India where a man is considered as the head of the household. If a woman fights it out for her equality she will be deemed as uncultured and disrespectful. If a man is widowed, he will be allowed to re-marry without question. But for a woman (still prevalent in some towns and cities), she is blamed for her husbands death and is made to go through several rituals constantly reminding her of her husbands demise and is not allowed to move on. This is core Social Inequality.

In a developed nation like the United States, ages back woman were not allowed to vote. There was high level of racism deep rooted within this society where Blacks were discriminated against in all areas of the society. They were mistreated and never allowed to live respectfully. Unfortunately, racism still exists in some parts of the country till date… some go unnoticed and some are just ignored. USA is a country of immigrants where everyone is given equal opportunity to learn, grow and make a living of their own. A cab driver is equally respected as a CEO of a company. But that is in most cases only, there always exists this element of outliers in the society who do not believe in social equality despite the changing times.

India and USA are democratic nations which are seeing a lot of social inequalities and people are slowly bringing about changes to reason out and bring about a mindset change to remove this divide.

A society which is socially equal will be a very successful and productive society because there will be just more hands and brains to help grow the nations dreams. Social equality is a positive aspect one must strive towards and hope that we are a part of such a society in a long run.

The structure of any society should be grounded on equality

• The society should be structured on the root of equality to make justice for everyone in their daily life.

• As providing equality in society will serve every citizen, in the same way, it will offer everyone an equal opportunity.

• Social equality is mainly a state of matters in which all people within an explicit society or remote group have the same status in conceivably all respects, possibly comprising civil rights, freedom of speech, property rights and equal right to certain social goods and social services.
