Anaerobic respiration takes place in our muscles during vigourous physical exercise when oxygen gets used up faster in the muscle cell than supplied by blood.Glucose is converted into lactic acid with the release of small amount of energy

Due to excess lactic acid in muscles we get cramps.

But they can be corrected by massage

Overuse of a muscle, dehydration, muscle strain or simply holding a position for a prolonged period can cause a muscle cramp. In many cases, however, the cause isn't known. Although most muscle cramps are harmless, some may be related to an underlying medical condition, such as: Inadequate blood supply.
