Why do we get shadows of different shapes for same object?

The different shapes of the same object depend upon the direction of the source of light. If the source of light is below, we get a longer shadown, if its above, we get shorter shadow and when the source of light i right above the head, then, the shadow is the smallest

• Light travels in a straight line. The shadows of any object is formed when this path of light is obstructed by an object.
• When the light falls directly on the object in a vertically straight line, a small or sometimes, no shadow is formed.
• However, when the falls in a slanting way on any object, tall or short shadow is formed depending upon the direction of light and placement of the object and its characteristics ( like transparent, translucent or opaque.
