the colour of a persons skin depends on his environment .In regions with abundant sunlight , a dark skin colour is necessary to provide protection against harmful UV rays .Light skinned people in north Europe , where there is very little sunlight , do not need this protection .UV rays are not always harmful ; they are needed for the formation of vitamin D ,which the body needs for building bones.

we have different skin colours because it depends on the quantity of melanin in the skin if there is more melanin then the skin turns black. our skin produces more melanin when we are in hot sunlight but it produces temporary melanin only. moles are permanent patches of melanin. so our skin differs in to two types where one is called fair skin and other is called dark skin. : )
