India is a very big country. In order to maintain the uniformity of time within the country the Standard Meridian of India is taken as 82 ½ ° E longitude. It passes through the city of Allahabad. The local time along this Meridian serves as the Indian Standard Time (I.S.T)

India have variety of states at various locations.... so time differs at Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh....
So to avoid such variations to took average distance from these two states and located Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh..
So they used the time used in Mirzapur as standard time for Whole India...
