WHY LEAP ?

  • Most years have 365 days, but a leap year has 366 days. The extra day in the year is added onto the end of the shortest month, that  is February. So in a leap year, February has 29 days, instead of the usual 28 days.

WHY DO WE HAVE LEAP YEARS ?

  • A full year is the time, the Earth takes to orbit around the sun once. The earth takes 365 1/4 days to take one orbit. The 1/4 day when clubbed together for four years, creates a full day. Adding one extra day after every four years brings the earth in the same point of its orbit, and at the same time of the calendar year each year.

WHEN IS THE NEXT LEAP DAY ?

  • The next leap year will be February 29,2020.
  • Leap days come after 4 years

LEAPY FACTS :

  • The first leap year was declared in 46 BC by Julius Caesar of Rome.

  • The chance of being born on a leap day is often one in 1,461.
  • People born on February 29 are called ' leaplings ' or 'leapers'.

CALCULATING A LEAP YEAR  :
