Why do we have many small bones instead of a long bone in our backbone???

to ensure easy movement small bones have many joints which will give flexibility
hence we have many small bones as compared to long bones

Single backbone would have been a curse for us.
A single bone cannot allow any movement as it is rigid.
Set of bones joined together will allow easy movement and bending of the backbone.
