We have elections in every 5 years as we cannot stay with same thing every day.. We always need changes in our life... Also if someone feels like he/she is not being treated as he/she should be, he could opt to vote for another leader... Also there are some other reasons as well like political management, foreign affairs, etc.... That's why elections are held in short periods of time..
