Reverberation is the persistence of sound due to multiple reflections of sound waves.
You must have seen the cinema theaters having the walls covered with sheets of cloth. This is to stop the reechoing of sounds (reverberation). The sheet of cloth absorbs the sounds in the theater thus reducing multiple reflections of sound.

Curtains, clothes, cotton absorb the sound. They are excellent sound absorbing materials, so we can't hear clearly in presence of sound absorbing materials.

We can hear more clearly when there is no sound absorbing material. The sound echoes in the room.

Hope This Helps You!
