Many poets, historians and philosophers of the time of the kings wrote about the kings. Even today, if you are a historian, you will write about our prime minister, chief ministers and presidents before anything else, wouldn’t you?
Common people, in the ancient days, could not read and write, and except for nobles and royalty, most people were illiterate. Kings and nobles paid money to poets to write great books about them.
These are the books we read today, and refer as historical literal artefacts. Most common people could not even afford enough meals during some historical periods, let alone pay high fees to writers.

I hope this answers your question. I tried to write as much as accurately as I can.

Hope it helps.
