The set of basic rules according to which the government of a country runs is called a constitution. It deals with the relations of the centre with the states, between one state and other beton. the different organs of the government (like legislature, executive and judiciary) and between government and its citizens.

We need a constitution to achieve the following objectives:

  • A constitution specifies how the government will be constituted and who will have the powen to take decisions.

  • It lays down limits on the powers of the government and guides it to respect the fundamental rights of the people.

  • It aims at the creation of a good or liberal and civilised society and give expression to the aspirations of the people.

  • It generates trust and co-ordination among the different groups of people to live together in harmony.
