To move the body along the circular path a force is needed so that it can counter balance the other force and the body maintains its position fixed from a point called centre of circle ,if imagine there is no in ward force acting on it the body will flew tangentially from its circular path.

While moving in a circular path, at every instant the body tries to move in a direction which is along the tangent drawn at that point of the circular path. To keep the body moving in a circular path, we need to supply a force which is directed towards the centre of the circular path, called the centripetal force.
