Parliament is the supreme political authority of elected representatives. It is the law making body. Its significance lies in the following :

(a) Law making final authority : The Parliament has wide powers in the field of legislation. It can Legislate on those subjects which have been given in the Union List.

(b) Control over the executive : We need a legislative body to control over the executive. Thus, the political executives who run the government can be in the office as long as they enjoy confidence of the Parliament.

(c) Control and regulate finance : It is the Parliament which controls money or finances of the country. In many countries the financial statement is prepared by Parliament or legislature.

(d) Provide platform for Debate : Parliament is the highest forum of discussion and debate on public issues and national policies. Parliament has the power to obtain information and details on any matter. All the important issues are discussed and debated before coming to a
final decision.
