The time of a place depends on the longtitude that passes through it. therefore, the standard time for each country is usually taken as the time of the central meridian that passes through it.

Well, the significance of Standard meridian is to manage time difference in the country.
The 82degree 30' East longitude is taken asStandard Time Meridian of India, as it passes through the middle of India(Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh). Indian Standard Time: GMT + 05:30.
Hope this helps you buddy.
