The time of a place depends on the longitude that passes through it. Therefore, the standard time of a country is taken as the time of the central meridian that passes through it. India has a vast longitudinal extent because many meridians pass through it. Thus, we need a standard meridian for the country. In India 82 ½ °E longitude determines the standard time. This is known as theIndian Standard Time. This longitude passes through Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Heya☺
Good question☺
First of all ....... what is standard meridian ...... it is the common longitude adopted by a country as its time.....
For example India has taken 82.5 'E as its standard meridian ....... which shows 5 and a half hour ahead of the Greenwich mean time...
We need it in India because ........without it different places will have different time...... which will be very difficult and confusing....
