We need a standard meridian for India because there is a time lag of about 2 hours between Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh. To avoid confusion of time in different states , India adopted a standard meridian which is 82 degrees 30 E. Standard Meridian of India is located at Mirzapur,Uttar Pradesh. So The significance of Standard meridian is to manage time difference in the country. Standard meridian is an imaginary line which passes through Mirzapur ,Uttar Pradesh .It lies almost at 82.30'E. It determines the time over the India. As there is a time lag of 2 hours between estern and western point of India..

Hope it helps❤
