hi.
A is proportional to B can indicate two things. 1) as A increases, B also increases 2) as A increases, B decreases
Each proportionality is termed as direct proportionality(ABAB is constant) and inverse proportionality(A×BA×B is constant) respectively. The increase and decrease is by a single factor. Like ππ
Perimeter(P) and diameter(d) of a circle are directly proportional(when diameter is stretched out, proportionally perimeter get stretched to preserve the circular shape) Ie, PαdPαd
Formula for perimeter is:
P=π∗dP=π∗d
When we mean proportionality or inverse proportionality we imply just what the words imply, that the value in consideration changes with respect to how dependent it is on the change in the other object.
For example, Newton found out that gravity is inversely proportional to the square of the point from the origin of gravitational force. So, Fα1r2α1r2.
He also assumed that product of main and secondary object was the cause of gravitational force. So, Fαm1m2Fαm1m2
Taking the
GG was that constant that he threw in just to remove the proportionality.

Let's say you have A and B aand after some research you found A is proportional to B. So you know when A increases B also increases but you can't say what exactly happen to B when you increase A that's where constant comes in….

Heyaa folk,
Newton found out that gravity is inversely proportional to the square of the point from the origin of gravitational force. So, F. He also assumed that product of main and secondary object was the cause of gravitational force. Hence, was that constant that he threw in just to remove the proportionality.
Hope it helps u :)
