Why do we need friction to hold a pencil

We need friction to write with pencil.If there is no friction,it slip as soon as when we try to write.we also need friction to hold friction , otherwise we cannot hold as it slips

If there is no friction we cant hold pencil & also we cant write... So we need friction to hold & to write on the paper.
